The Famous Project relaunches maxi trimaran IDEC Sport

Yacht Racing Podcast

Alexia Barrier’s hopes of setting a new around the world nonstop Jules Verne Trophy record with an all-female crew took a major step forward today when the French sailor’s The Famous Project re-launched the Maxi trimaran IDEC SPORT in Vannes, France today at the Multiplast shipyard where the giant multihull has spent five months in refit.

Back in 2017, IDEC Sport’s five-man crew skippered by Francis Joyon were awarded the Jules Verne Trophy after completing a blistering lap of the planet in just 40 days, 23 hours, and 30 minutes – a benchmark time that remains unbeaten today.

Originally launched in June 2006 as Franck Cammas’ Groupama 3, the five-month overhaul has seen the boat stripped bare and thoroughly tested before being repainted again in its red IDEC livery.

With the boat now relocated to its home port La Trinité-sur-Mer Barrier has a busy summer ahead as she and her team fine-tune the boat and continue with the on-going crew selection process for the  Jules Verne Trophy attempt, scheduled for 2025.
