Olympic Sailing: Princess Sofia Trophy on Mallorca called off due to COVID-19

Olympic Sailing

The second major major Olympic classes regatta cancellation due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 48 hours has been announced, with the Princess Sofia Trophy event in Mallorca, Spain falling victim to the virus today.

A message from the organisers read:

The organizing committee of the Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy announces the cancellation of its 2020 edition due to the COVID19 pandemic and following the recommendations of the Spanish and Balearic governments. This decision affects all participating categories: Olympic classes, One-Design, Open Foil and ORC.

This latest event cancellation comes hot on the heels of World Sailing’s announcement yesterday that the Hempel World Cup Series Genoa regatta scheduled for April 11 – 19 had been called off due to COVID-19 concerns.
