Arkea Ultim Challenge – An extraordinary solo race around the world

Yacht Racing Podcast

A race around the world for solo-skippered 32-metre foiling trimarans has never been attempted before.

In fact to date only four people have ever completed a solo lap of the planet in a multihull.

The Arkea Ultim Challenge Brest is an extraordinary race between six exceptional sailors aboard a fleet of incredible machines – the majority of which are fully foiling.

The race started on 7 January 2024 and is expected to take between 40-50 days for the front runners.

PlanetSail’s Matthew Sheahan was in Brest before of the start and spoke to Armel Le Cleac’h, skipper of Maxi Banque Populaire XI – one of the pre-race favourites and the current monohull round the world record holder.
